Eisenstein imagined that cinema could represent “visual thinking” – not just arguments, but the process by which the mind constructs arguments... October is the purest, most cogent example of Eisenstein’s theory and practice of cinema... you can feel the exhilaration – and the touch of madness – of an artist standing on the threshold of what he believes will be a brave new world.” – Richard Pena, Columbia University

September 20, 2014 - January 4, 2015
Since the late 19th century, artists have often compared the use of design and color with the work of modern musical composers, with each form or hue corresponding to musical phrases and tones. Carol Brown Goldberg carries on this “chromesthetic” tradition in her recent paintings, creating, in the words of one critic, “glorious color-saturated paintings that make us feel heavenly.”

N/A

Do you know a child who has experienced the loss of a loved one? Then sign them up for VNA Hospice’s Camp Chrysalis, a one-day bereavement retreat for children who have experienced a loss.
October 18, 2014 from 9:00am - 4:00pm.
Fishing, pony rides, bounce house, arts and crafts, and group workshops are just a few of the fun activities planned for the day.

The camp is staffed by VNA bereavement counselors, volunteers, and activity leaders who are trained in bereavement support. Special camp activities are designed to help children work through their grief and understand that their emotions are a normal part of the grieving process. Campers have an opportunity to interact with peers who have experienced a similar loss and discover they are not alone.

Camp Chrysalis is free of charge for Indian River County children ages 6—12, and is not limited to those who have been served by VNA Hospice. The event is made possible by the Clint S. Malone Memorial fund through the Indian River Community Foundation and Quail Valley Charities, Inc.

Application deadline is October 16. For more information or to register a child, contact Tracey Soethe at 772.978.5553. For more information about VNA services, call 772.567.5551 or visit www.vnatc.com.

New York City Firefighter John Larocchia’s Firehouse Haz-Mat Co and Squad 288 lost 19 of its members on 9/11/01. But from great tragedy came a great discovery. This inspired him to create the Laughter Saves Lives Comedy Tour where he travels the country raising money to support first responders across America.

On October 24 Laughter Saves Lives will perform for the benefit of SAFER Indian River County at the Vero Beach Elks Lodge #1774. Doors open at 6pm with show time at 8pm. There will be a cash bar and appetizers will be served.

Carol Brown Goldberg: Recent Works

September 20, 2014 - January 4, 2015
Since the late 19th century, artists have often compared the use of design and color with the work of modern musical composers, with each form or hue corresponding to musical phrases and tones. Carol Brown Goldberg carries on this “chromesthetic” tradition in her recent paintings, creating, in the words of one critic, “glorious color-saturated paintings that make us feel heavenly.”

3:00 pm

Presented by The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra:

Relish three monumental works in one concert. Richard Wagner's Overture to The Flying Dutchman is a striking tone poem conjuring vividly the turbulent atmosphere of the sea. Beethoven’s captivating and lyrical Violin Concerto is in the capable hands of soloist, Joni Roos. The Violin Concerto is one of the most grandiose and beautiful of its kind. Brahms constantly strived to embody and emulate the great symphonic model that Beethoven created. His rapturous Symphony No. 3 follows in Beethoven’s path as a work unfolding with brilliant melody and harmony.

Cost: $20 -- Students 18 & Under are FREE to all Space Coast Symphony Orchestra concerts and do not require a ticket. The 18 & Under Club pass is available in the lobby prior to the concert.
